Did Catholics add 7 books to the Bible? Or did Protestants take them away? The answer is that Protestants took them away. Despite Protestants of the more evangelical brand often accusing Catholics and the Pope of “adding to the Word of God,” the truth is that Martin Luther was the man who took out the seven books – and all with no authority to do so.
Anti-Catholics hold that the Council of Trent Some people will try to say that the Council of Trent added those books in the 16th century, but they have not studied history much. It’s a historical fact that the Catholic Church put the Bible together under one cover in the late 300s and the 7 books were there as part of the Bible. For over 1100 years, those 7 books were present in the Bible until the Protestants took them out in the 16th century. Again, with absolutely no authority to do so. Martin Luther also didn’t consider Revelation at Scripture; he didn’t like the book of James or some other New Testament books. Either scripture is infallible or it’s not. Neither Martin Luther nor anyone else has the authority to remove books from Scripture.
